For over 80 years, Captain John’s Sport Fishing Center has been family owned and operated. Through 4 generations, Captain John’s has housed the Sunbeam Fleet at its home in Waterford, Connecticut. With three boats currently in the fleet, the Sunbeam Fleet can accommodate groups from 1-80 passengers. We offer your usual Private Charters and Public Fishing as well as unique trips such as Burial at Sea, Fireworks Cruises, and more!
Weekly Fishing Report
Things are going strong aboard our Fleet! As always, the tides and conditions keep us on our toes, but overall, the bass fishing has been excellent. We’ve seen lots of personal bests lately, with some impressive catches up to 46 inches!Our fluke/bass combo trips have produced some fantastic bass action, though the fluke have been a bit slow to bite. Porgies remain a bit picky, but I’m confident things will pick up after the June full moon.We’re excited to kick off our full schedule this week! Half day bottom fishing (Sea Bass, Porgy & Fluke) starts June 16th every Mon. Tues. & Thurs. departing at 8:00 am.
Kid fishing trips start June 19th are specially designed for our most important young anglers! There’s no better way to spend the summer than out on a boat, and reeling in fun. It’s a wonderful alternative to sitting on the couch playing video games—fresh air, adventure, and unforgettable memories await! The Sunbeam VI charter boat, which carries up to 15 passengers, has had major overhaul this past winter giving us more power and speed. We’re confident you’ll be impressed by the advancements in our technology system we have installed.
In order to receive prime days for private charters (6-80 passengers) whether is just family, friends or team building you may book online or contact office if you have any special dates or times we will do our best to accommodate you.

Our FFA chapter takes this trip every May and this was our best year ever! 22 people caught 74 stripers (4 keepers!) and we had a perfect weather day! The mates Steve and Kiwi were THE BEST!
