About our Charter Boat Fishing Company

For over 80 years, Captain John’s Sport Fishing Center has been family owned and operated. Through 4 generations, Captain John’s has housed the Sunbeam Fleet at its home in Waterford, Connecticut. With three boats currently in the fleet, the Sunbeam Fleet can accommodate groups from 1-80 passengers. We offer your usual Private Charters and Public Fishing as well as unique trips such as Burial at Sea, Fireworks Cruises, and more!

Weekly Fishing Report

Captain Bob of the Sunbeam Fleet reports that the Blackfishing season is well underway! Fishing has been decent as always with some trips seeing more action than others, but all in all we’ve seen good early season action. There have been plenty of blackfish mixed in with some seabass and a few porgies left over. James Jacobson visited from West Palm Beach, Florida this week and came fishing Wednesday and Friday. After telling him how hard blackfishing is, he proceeded to limit out on both trips with no problem! We will be sailing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through November 23rd so make sure to get your reservations in now before the season is over!

I have been fishing with the Sunbeam Fleet for over 15 years and have always had a great experience and never came home empty-handed. Captain Matt is extremely knowledgeable about the fishing waters on the Sound. He never hesitates to change fishing tactics or move on to different areas on the water. This trip we landed over 30 stripers!

Lots of Fun

Our FFA chapter takes this trip every May and this was our best year ever! 22 people caught 74 stripers (4 keepers!) and we had a perfect weather day! The mates Steve and Kiwi were THE BEST! They worked well with many first-time teenage fishermen/women and had a great sense of humor and professionalism. We will be back again next year!

Amazing Trip

The Captain and his knowledgeable crew take you to his great fishing spots. You will have a great experience and a good laugh with the crew. If you want to have a great day fishing, book with them!
